Gemini can now create and edit documents, PDFs and spreadsheets in the chat
On October 29, 2026, Google announced that you can generate, preview and edit documents, PDFs, presentations, spreadsheets, code and more directly in the Gemini app. You can expand a file to full screen to type edits yourself, highlight text to ask questions about it, or have Gemini refine the file for you.

Where it works depends on the format. PDF preview and editing is supported on both web and mobile. Google Docs, Google Sheets, slide decks, Markdown files, TXT files and code are supported on the web only. The capabilities are available to all users, in all languages where the Gemini app is available.
If you work mostly on your phone, keep in mind that of the formats Google lists, only PDFs are supported on mobile.
Google's own example is a study guide: upload handwritten lecture notes, ask Gemini to turn them into a PDF study guide, then edit it.
Our take:
try Google's own example and turn handwritten lecture notes into a PDF study guide.
